0 32

The government approved the extension of Route 6 north to Beit HaEmek, after the project budget was agreed upon between the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Transportation.

The project includes paving 22 kilometers of the highway, constructing three new interchanges, and preserving a strip of land parallel to the highway for future railway construction.

The Ministry of Finance says that the project will cost 3 billion shekels. It says it will primarily benefit the cities of Acre, Nahariya, Karmiel and Ma’alot-Tarshiha, as well as kibbutzim and villages along Route 70.

According to the ministry, the expansion of the highway will significantly reduce congestion on Route 4 and Route 70, facilitate the future development of the rail network, and make Acre and Nahariya and their commercial and industrial areas more attractive. Thousands of new jobs will be created in the north of the country during the three-year construction period.

The new part of the road will be built according to the method of partnership between the public and private sectors, through an international tender. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2025 and be completed by 2028.
