The Israeli Ministry of Agriculture announced today that the price of a liter of government-controlled milk will rise by 3% on May 1 to 7.23 shekels. Milk prices have increased by 16% over the past six months. Next week, the price of a 200-milligram container of sour cream will rise from 2.40 shekels to 2.79 shekels.
The Ministry of Agriculture said that the price of raw milk rose 12% from its previous price, due to a sharp rise in livestock feed for cows after the Russian invasion of Ukraine last year. “We didn’t know the war in Ukraine would go on for so long and that drove up prices,” said an industry source.
Other components of the price of milk also rose. Electricity and fuel prices increased by 10%, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, and the salary index in the food sector also increased by about 9%, while the consumer price index increased by 5.2% during the relevant period.
