(Reuters) – Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:) has overhauled its logistics network to reduce package distance, The Wall Street Journal reported Saturday, in an effort to move goods faster and more profitably.

The online retailer’s efforts have helped reduce delivery times, transform inventory management, and change the search results customers see on the leading e-commerce site, the report added, citing executives, analysts and sellers who list their items on Amazon.

At a time of sluggish consumer demand, other online retailers are making efforts to cut home delivery costs and revenue.

Amazon said this week that it is offering US customers $10 to collect a purchase instead of having it shipped to a home address. As the company has tightened its belt after a period of explosive growth, it has taken several steps to reduce delivery-related costs throughout the company.

Amazon did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
