Israel upgrading plutonium in Dimona nuclear reactor – report

Israel is modernizing its nuclear arsenal, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).


Israel is developing plutonium for its reactor at the nuclear research facility in Dimona, according to the institute's annual report. Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) on nuclear weapons.

The researchers point out in their report that Israel does not publicly admit to possessing nuclear weapons, but then they mention that Israel is modernizing its nuclear arsenal by developing its own plutonium.

The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) report ranks Israel eighth in terms of the total number of stored nuclear warheads with 90 warheads, ahead of North Korea, which is estimated to have 50 nuclear warheads. In first place is Russia with 4,380 nuclear warheads, followed by the United States with 3,708 nuclear warheads, unchanged from 2023. China is in second place. Third place with 500 warheads, up from 410 in 2023.
