EigenLayer Bolsters Security Amid Looming Threat, Here’s What to Know

The primary goal of this update is to strengthen defenses against Sybil and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks by putting whitelisting security mechanisms in place.

EigenLayer’s EigenDA platform is undergoing a security advancement

Over the weekend, EigenLayer’s EigenDA Announce Its plans to strengthen the platform’s defense mechanism with Whitelist Security measures to combat looming Sybil and DDoS attacks. This action is part of Eigenlayer’s larger plan to harden its network against potential vulnerabilities and provide a stable environment for users and developers.

Depending on the platform, to ensure improved security and safe access to the service, the whitelist security mechanism uses either an Internet Protocol (IP) address or EthereumElliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) authentication.

In the rapidly changing world of decentralized applications and blockchain technology, these steps are essential to maintaining network reliability and integrity. By pre-approving trusted nodes and users in the EiganDA network, whitelist security technology reduces the likelihood that malicious actors will attempt to interfere with operations using Sybil or DDoS attacks.

The current free, non-permissioned EigenLayer provides 6 blobs of 128KB per batch, for a total of 768KB every 10 minutes. Specifically, this is more than what the majority of Ethereum clusters like Base are currently using.

It is important to note that EigenLayer’s EigenDA is capable of performing load testing on the mainnet with a maximum throughput of 10 MB/s. EigenDA consistently generates 0.6MB of synthetic load per second compared to Ethereum 4844 points Throughput and Celestia mainnet at 0.032 MB/s and ⅙ MB/s respectively.

Currently, the platform is developing permissionless payments for EigenDA’s large blob throughput, which is scheduled to be released later in the year. When this system is deployed, EigenDA will also make reserved bandwidth available for high throughput use cases at a pre-determined rate.

The second phase of airdrops for LRT users

The security update for EigenDA comes just days after the launch of the platform Launched The second phase of the Season 1 airdrop for Liquid Resaging Tokens (LRTs) users. According to the announcement, users who transacted with the Kelp, Pendle, and Equilibrium LRT protocols can now claim their tokens.

Based on interactions with EIGENLayer, the Foundation reported that it maintained allocations for each LRT procedure, applying no penalties and adhering to the same standards as in the first phase. The platform highlighted that the decline in EIGEN’s share was determined by each action LRT protocol In relation to the end user while conducting Sybil and risk assessment to determine eligible titles and claims.

Users who interacted with these protocols before March 15 are eligible to claim their tokens before September 7.
