BRUSSELS (Reuters) – The European Commission said on Friday it had asked Amazon.com Inc. to provide more information on the measures the U.S. e-commerce giant has taken to comply with its obligations under the Digital Services Act.
“In particular, Amazon is requested to provide detailed information on its compliance with the provisions on the transparency of recommendation systems (…)”, the EU said in a statement.
Amazon said it must provide the requested information by July 26.
VAT would require big tech companies to do more to tackle illegal and harmful content on their platforms.
Amazon said it is reviewing the EU request.
“We are reviewing this request and working closely with the European Commission,” an Amazon spokesperson said. “Amazon shares the European Commission’s goal of creating a safe, predictable and reliable shopping environment.”
“We believe this is important to everyone involved in the retail industry, and we invest heavily in protecting our store from bad actors and illegal content, and in creating a trustworthy shopping experience. We built on this strong foundation to comply with the Digital Advertising Act,” the company spokesperson added.
