JERUSALEM (Reuters) – The body of a soldier abducted by militants from Gaza on Oct. 7 has been rescued and brought to Israel, the Israeli military said on Wednesday.

The army said the rescue operation took place overnight, and that his name would not be published at the request of his family.

“The soldier fell during the October 7 massacre and was kidnapped in the Gaza Strip,” she said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the soldiers involved in the operation, and said he would continue to make every effort to return “all remaining hostages and bodies to Israel.”

There are still 108 hostages being held in Gaza by armed groups. About a third of them are believed to have died, while the fate of the rest remains unknown. The military has not confirmed the number of those alive or dead.

Hamas and Israeli leaders continue talks through mediators in an attempt to reach an agreement on the release of the hostages and an end to the 10-month-old war.
