(Reuters) – The Communications Workers of America (CWA) union said in a statement on Monday it has informed AT&T Inc (NYSE:ATN) and the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service that it will no longer be part of the mediation.
“The company was using the mediation process as another stalling tactic,” said Richard Hunnicutt, vice president of the Communications Workers Union’s Third District.
More than 17,000 workers represented by the Canadian Telecommunications Workers Union, including technicians, customer service representatives and others who install, maintain and support AT&T’s wireline network for homes and businesses, have been on strike since last month.
“Regardless of whether a neutral third party is present, progress will not be made without a willingness to compromise,” an AT&T spokesperson said in a statement to Reuters late Monday.
The telecom company added that it will remain prepared for all emergencies to ensure smooth services to its customers.
