Last month, the low-cost airline had the largest share of passengers passing through Ben Gurion Airport after Israel Airlines.
For the first time since it began operating in Israel, low-cost carrier Wizz Air has announced a long-term cancellation of all flights until mid-January 2025. This is a dramatic announcement because Wizz Air has shown impressive stability in continuing to fly to Israel. Compared to other foreign airlines, Israel has only canceled its flights for several days during periods of heightened tension.
Initially, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) recommendation against travel to Israel following the assassination of Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah appeared to be the main factor prompting Wizz Air to cancel its flights over the past few weeks, but even after the recommendation… . The order was lifted, and the airline continued to cancel its flights to Israel.

Now Wizz Air is postponing all flights for several months while abandoning the Tishrei and Hanukkah holidays, periods known to be very popular among Israeli passengers and therefore also profitable for the airline. According to data from the Israel Airports Authority, in September Wizz Air was particularly popular among Israeli travelers, occupying fourth place after Israeli airlines, with a market share of 5.87% of the total passengers who passed through Ben Gurion Airport (637,793 passengers in total).
