A technology issue at Alaska Airlines temporarily grounded flights in Seattle on Monday morning and caused problems into the afternoon for people trying to book flights on its website, Alaska Airlines said.
The Seattle-based company said in a statement that the issue Monday morning led to “significant disruption” to its operations, including flight delays. The airline said it requested a 40-minute ground stop at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to clear aircraft congestion.
No further details were provided about the technological issue, nor was the reason for the disruption clear.
A message on the company’s website Monday afternoon said it was having problems booking flights on the website, through its mobile app and at the call centre.
“We sincerely apologize to our guests who were affected and are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible,” the statement read.
The problems came at the beginning of the company’s Cyber Monday ride sale. In comments from its X account to customers complaining about missing flights, delays and problems using the airline’s app and website, the carrier also apologized.
In late September, Alaska Airlines flights It was discontinued in Seattle due to what the company described as major disruptions caused by an unspecified technical issue.
