100,000 customers switch electricity supplier

Just over three months since the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure’s electricity market reform took effect, the threshold of 100,000 customers in Israel changing their electricity supplier has already been crossed, which was the target of the end of 2024. 42,000 households and businesses have applied to change suppliers While another 80,000 customers have already moved away from the Israel Electric Corporation (IEC).

Of those who switched suppliers, 27,950 customers had a basic electricity meter and were not able to move suppliers before the reform in July. A smart meter, which can be read remotely, allows a household or business to receive a greater discount than a customer with a basic meter. The Ministry of Energy, Infrastructure and Noga Electricity Systems Administration, which manages Israel’s electricity structure, reported that there is already a significant shift between private sector suppliers with 14,367 households and businesses currently switching between private sector suppliers.

There are 3.1 million electricity customers in Israel, and with the target of 100,000 by the end of 2024 already breached, the target has been raised to 200,000. The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and Nougat are planning to launch a marketing campaign on the converter next November.
