Air France extends Israel flight cancelations

Air France extended the cancellation of all Israeli flights until November 26, and the Italian carrier ITA extended its cancellations until January 13, 2025.

The Air France and ITA announcements came the day after violent attacks on fans of the Maccabi Tel Aviv soccer team in Amsterdam, which prompted Israel’s National Security Council to recommend that Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball players not travel to their team’s Europa League game in Bologna, Italy.

These events and the current climate are likely to deter Israelis from traveling and reduce demand for flights to Europe. European airlines are in any case extending their flight cancellations, and the worry is that falling demand will provide an additional incentive not to resume flights to Israel. Travel agents in Israel say holidays in Amsterdam have been canceled but only for a short period, as well as a drop in demand for flights to the Netherlands.

ITA’s long-term cancellation is in line with other airlines that have decided to abandon flights to Israel until 2025 including Wizz Air and KLM which have suspended flights until at least January 2025. Other airlines including Delta, Virgin Atlantic, British Airways and easyJet will not do so. She will be back until at least March/April 2025. Other companies, including American Airlines, United Airlines, Air Canada, Air India and Ryanair, have not set a date for the resumption of flights to Israel.
