Artificial intelligence startup Anthropic is in discussio talks to raise $750M in a funding round led by Menlo Ventures, The Information reported citing people familiar with the matter.
The company’s valuation before the funding round comes to about $15B. The round has not been finalized, however, the final valuation could exceed $18B the report added.
Anthropic was co-founded by siblings and former executives at Microsoft (MSFT)-backed OpenAI, Dario and Daniela Amodei.
In October, Alphabet unit Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) (GOOGL) reportedly invested $500M in Anthropic with the promise of another $1.5B over time. While in September, Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) said will invest up to $4B in the San Francisco-based startup, and pick a minority stake in the company as the two parties collaborate to advance generative AI.
Last month it was reported that competitor OpenAI’s previous board had approached Anthropic’s CEO regarding replacing OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman and potentially merging the two AI companies.
