Apple and Meta have discussed AI partnership, WSJ reports By Reuters

(Reuters) – Facebook parent Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:) has discussed integrating Meta's generative AI model into Apple Inc's (NASDAQ:) recently announced AI system for iPhones, The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday.

Aside from Google (NASDAQ:) and Meta, AI companies Anthropic and Perplexity are also in discussions with Apple to bring generative AI to Apple Intelligence, the newspaper reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

Apple, Meta, Perplexity and Anthropic did not immediately respond to requests for comment outside business hours.

The newspaper reported that the discussions are not over yet and may end, adding that the deals with Apple will help artificial intelligence companies obtain wider distribution of their products.

The report said the extent of the potential financial gains is unclear, but the talks included artificial intelligence companies that sell premium subscriptions to their services through Apple Intelligence.

The iPhone maker announced its long-awaited AI strategy this month, saying it will integrate new Apple Intelligence technology across its suite of apps, including Siri, and will bring OpenAI-powered ChatGPT to its devices.
