Baltimore bridge collapse: FBI boards Synergy Marine ship

Federal agents boarded a ship operated by the same company that operated a cargo ship that caused the Deadly Baltimore Bridge CollapseThe FBI has confirmed this.

In statements Saturday, spokesmen for the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Maryland confirmed that authorities had boarded the Maersk Saltoro. The ship is operated by Synergy Marine Group.

“The FBI, EPA Criminal Investigation Division, and Coast Guard Investigative Services are on board the Maersk Saltoro to conduct court-approved law enforcement activities,” the FBI and U.S. Attorney’s Office said in statements.

The authorities did not provide further details.

In a lawsuit filed on WednesdayThe U.S. Justice Department has charged the owner of the cargo ship Daly, Grace Ocean Private Limited, and its manager, Synergy Marine Group, both of Singapore, with ignoring known electrical problems with the ship that lost power moments before it struck a support pole on the Francis Scott Key Bridge in March.

The Justice Department is seeking to recover more than $100 million the government spent to remove underwater debris and reopen the city’s port.

Grace Ocean spokesman Daryl Wilson confirmed that the FBI and Coast Guard boarded the Maersk Saltoro at the Port of Baltimore on Saturday morning.

Wilson said earlier that the owner and manager “look forward to our day in court to clear things up” regarding the Justice Department lawsuit.
