For many Democrats, the long Fourth of July weekend was an opportune moment for President Biden to announce that he would not seek reelection. Instead, he doubled down and avoided a routine interview with ABC.
A total of five Democratic members of Congress are now publicly calling on Biden to withdraw, but several met on Sunday and there are likely to be more as Congress returns to Washington this week.
Biden is also hosting the NATO summit on July 9-11, which will give him plenty of opportunities to speak live. I think it’s worth watching any potential live, unscheduled events to get a sense of how he’s doing. If Biden makes another mistake, the pressure will rise even higher.
The polls are also worth watching. His popularity has plateaued and sometimes rebounded, which helps his cause.
