Boeing (BA) has orders for 540 new aircraft that it plans to begin delivering. In 2025, the impact of the latest problem on the aircraft’s launch date is still unknown.
The case represents the latest setback for Boeing’s efforts to certify its largest jetliner, which is already about five years behind schedule after it finally began flight tests with U.S. regulators on board last month.
“During scheduled maintenance, we identified a component that was not performing as designed,” the company said. “Our team is replacing the part, leveraging any lessons learned from the component, and will resume flight testing when ready.”
Boeing described the part as a structural component between the engine and the aircraft.
Earlier Monday, the Federal Aviation Administration issued an airworthiness directive requiring inspections of Boeing 787 Dreamliners, in response to an incident in March when a LATAM Airlines flight made an emergency landing after a cockpit seat moved, injuring more than 50 passengers.
