Brazil’s HBR Realty files eviction action against WeWork By Reuters

SAO PAULO (Reuters) – Brazilian real estate firm HBR Realty said on Tuesday it had filed an eviction lawsuit against WeWork for non-payment, although the flexible workspace provider denied knowledge of such a notice.

The eviction follows a “breach of the lease agreement” signed between WeWork and SPE HBR1, a unit of HBR, to lease the HBR Corporate Faria Lima building in Sao Paulo, HBR said in a securities filing.

Harvard Business Review did not specify how much WeWork owes, but said it has sent notices to the company demanding immediate payment of back rent.

In response to a Reuters request for comment, the workspace provider said it was not aware of any eviction notice and was operating at full capacity in all its buildings in Brazil.

“Negotiations have already resulted in agreements with our landlords, and we remain committed to providing the excellent service our members expect,” WeWork said.

Brazilian media reported in July that WeWork had hired law firm Alvarez & Marsal to help restructure its business in Brazil, after the US-based company won approval for its Chapter 11 bankruptcy plan in May.
