CDI College also made a cash contribution for every donation received, totaling $665 to the Food Bank of Canada.
“Initiatives like these are directly aligned with our mission of changing lives through education,” says Andre Souza. “Without a healthy diet, it is very difficult to concentrate and learn new things. In this regard, the generosity of CDI College students and staff during the holiday season fills us with admiration.
Canadian food banks receive up to two million visits per month, and a third of their clients are children. People who use food banks come from all walks of life: families with children, the elderly, men and women with disabilities, low-income people, and welfare recipients. Food banks are generally struggling to keep up with demand.
If you’re considering donating to your local food bank, here’s a list of the most in-demand food and consumer products:
- Canned meat, fish, fruits, soup, vegetables and beans
- Meat substitutes
- Whole grains
- Baby food
- Pasta and pasta sauces
- Personal hygiene products
- Cash donations to purchase fresh food (milk, proteins, fruits and vegetables)
