Southern Company (New York Stock Exchange: SOGeorgia Power has announced that commercial commissioning of the newly constructed Unit 3 reactor at Vogtle Nuclear Power Plant will be delayed by at least another month, 8-K filing.
Southern (SO) said a The decomposed hydrogen seal was found in the main generator during start-up and pre-commissioning testing of Plant Vogtle unit 3, and the reactor commissioning date is now estimated to be July, instead of June as expected.
The facility said Unit 3, which has power-climb testing approximately 95% complete, is operating as designed during the pre-run test and start-up sequence.
Vogtle’s plant expansion has been plagued by delays and cost increases, and is now over budget by more than $16 billion.
