Conflux and China Telecom Debut First On-Chain Interaction with Blockchain SIM Card

(Press release – Toronto, Canada, May 16, 2023)

Conflux NetworkChina Telecom, China’s first regulated public blockchain and global telecom network, today unveiled its co-developed Blockchain SIM (BSIM) at the Xuhui District West Bank Artificial Intelligence Center in Shanghai.

For the first time in the world, the BSIM card is a mobile user identification card based on blockchain technology. With an appearance almost identical to traditional SIM cards, the BSIM card is fully compatible with mainstream mobile terminal systems such as Android and iOS. It also boasts 10 to 20 times more storage space than conventional SIM cards and dozens of times more computing power.

Besides the traditional communications functions, the BSIM card can also generate and store users’ public and private keys inside the card. By implementing digital signatures in a “private key never leaves the card” manner, the card reduces the risk of targeting users’ mobile devices through malware and virus attacks. Moreover, the BSIM card can implement encrypted storage, key recovery functions, and even integrate traditional U-shield functions. Take advantage of the hardware security features of the BSIM card to protect users’ private keys. It is currently the safest and most convenient solution for Web3 user login.

During the launch ceremony, Dr. Wu Ming, CTO and Co-Founder of Conflux Network, successfully transmitted the commemorative NFT of China Telecom and Conflux partnership by pressing the submit button within the app. This was the first public use of the on-chain BSIM card, as the NFT was transferred from the Shanghai Conflux Research Institute’s BSIM card account to the China Telecom BSIM card account.

Dr. Wu Ming of Conflux stated, “From now on, all mobile users can obtain a more secure digital identity through mobile terminals and access Web3 and the metaverse with minimal technical barriers. Blockchain technology has evolved beyond its reputation as a complex concept.” And inaccessible, it has turned into a really practical infrastructure for applications in the global economy and people’s daily lives.”

Li Anmin, deputy dean of the Research Institute of China Telecom Group, added: “We are committed to working hand in hand with Conflux Network in developing and promoting practical communications solutions designed to meet users’ real needs. The BSIM card is just the first step as we collaborate to explore a variety of application scenarios and complementary products, made possible by the innovative integration of blockchain technology with modern communications developments. “

The BSIM card will be piloted in Hong Kong before being gradually introduced to the main and overseas markets.
