ConsenSys Unveils zkEVM Rollup Network ‘Linea’

The Ethereum layer-2 ecosystem is being heated up with the space vision of another entry by ConsenSys, an already well-established player in the industry. ConsenSys, the company behind MetaMask, announced the launch of its second layer network – Linea – to the main Ethereum blockchain this week. He will soon start grooming partners too.

The new Layer 2 scaling solution is a zkEVM aggregation network that takes advantage of zero-knowledge proofs while making it equivalent to the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).

zkEVM collection network from ConsenSys – Linea

ConsenSys is the latest company to lead the growing trend of zkEVM with its new offering Linea which has already seen a successful network test phase with 5.5 million unique wallets transacting over 46 million transactions. According to the company, Linea has emerged as one of Goerli’s largest and fastest growing projects.

Before hitting the mainnet at ETHCC, Linea will start preparing its launch partners starting this week.

Linea combines the power of zero-knowledge evidence with the full Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) equation, allowing creators to build scalable decentralized applications (dapps) or migrate existing ones without the hassle of changing code or rewriting smart contracts.

According to ConsenSys’ announcement, the alpha release delivers faster throughput while lowering transaction fees up to 15x lower than Ethereum layer-1. The company also said that the release will allow deeper integration with the MetaMask cryptocurrency wallet.

Linea will be made available to users next week once partners have had a chance to roll out their dApps and infrastructure. The company also confirmed that the network uses Ether as its native currency, which is wired directly from the Ethereum Mainnet. He urged users to be careful about fraudulent advertisements for an existing or imminent sale or drop of Linea token.

popular zkEVM

zkEVM is an EMV compliant update roll secured by zero-knowledge proofs. By bundling into ZKPs with EVM compatibility, zkEVMs provide the security and privacy-preserving features of zk-Rollups while simultaneously improving Ethereum’s interoperability by protecting EVM compliance. Such a system helps zkEVMs to be interoperable with smart contracts and decentralized applications (dApps) used on Ethereum.

The first publicly available zkEVM was a zkSync solution called “zkSync Era”, which went live to great fanfare in March. Days later, Polygon announced the final mainnet for its zkEVM product and added subsequent improvements a month later.
