Dave Ramsey Says One Thing is Vital For Many Experiencing Layoff Fears

For couples, though, focusing on a topic during the period can help things run as smoothly as possible.

Ramsey says people in relationships going through layoffs need to focus on teamwork.

“Dear Dave,” wrote a counseling student named Anjanet, according to KTAR News in Arizona. “Earlier this month, my husband and I were laid off from our jobs within a few days of each other. The layoffs weren’t our fault. The company let several people go as a cost-cutting measure.”

Anjanet continued, “We took out an annuity because our finances were tight, but the good news is that he started training for a new job last week.” “We don’t have children, so I do interviews or fill out applications every day. Should we use the cash from annuities to live on until things settle down again, or should we use it to pay down debt?”

First, Ramsey responded with some practical advice.

“Dear Anjanet,” he wrote. “If you haven’t already, call your creditors and explain what happened. Tell them that the layoff was no fault of either of you, and that you will get in touch with them as soon as possible.”

Ramsay then admitted the human concerns the couple had been dealing with.

“This is a scary situation to be in, so be sure to keep the lines of communication wide open and encourage each other as you work through this,” he wrote.

Ramsey addressed a positive development in the couple’s trip.

“The good news, though,” Ramsey wrote, “is that things seem to be getting better. Support your husband all you can while he takes his new job, and make sure you keep looking for work, too.” “A little extra money never hurts, so taking on a part-time job while looking for a permanent job isn’t a bad idea either.”

“Of course you have to be honest and pay off your debts if possible,” he said. “But that may have to be put off for a while. The important thing for now is to keep the food in the house and the lights and heat on.”

Ramsay also talked about the importance of being a team and being strong together.

“Cuddle up to each other, stay determined and keep each other’s spirits up,” Ramsey said. “You’re a team, and you’ll get through it.”

Layoffs have been increasingly common lately, with tech companies cutting headcount making a lot of big news.

The good news is that tech professionals have been laid off from big companies like Google (Google) – Get a free reportor Amazon (AMZN) – Get a free reportFinding work generally quickly – Many small businesses struggle to find talent and have the funds to offer competitive salaries.

“We’re seeing a lot of active hiring at small to mid-sized tech companies across the US,” said Bert Bean, who leads IT staffing firm Insight Global, recently. CNBC. “These companies haven’t oversubscribed as their big competitors did during the pandemic when the technology sector was growing rapidly, so they didn’t have to resort to hiring freezes or layoffs.”
