EIA Hosting Bitcoin Mining Energy Use Webinar Today

Earlier this year, the Energy Information Administration attempted to conduct a survey of Bitcoin mining energy use under emergency licensing laws, bypassing the traditional process of conducting a survey that requires an open comment period from the public and industry players surveyed.

This attempt was made under highly questionable circumstances with unsound reasons to justify its emergency nature. Riot Platforms and the Texas Blockchain Council have filed a lawsuit seeking an injunction against the sweep in Wayco, Texas.

In the final agreement, the EIA voluntarily agreed to end information gathering under the state of emergency and destroy all information it received until the court ruled.

A new notice has been issued in accordance with the usual procedure for an open comment period.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration is holding a webinar today from 12:00-1:30 p.m. Central Time to discuss issues related to energy use in Bitcoin mining, and information related to mining site operations in the United States.

People can register. here To view the webinar, there is a form to ask questions during the registration process which we hope will be addressed during the webinar.

I would like to ask, as I have in previous coverage of agency actions related to this space, that if you come in and submit any questions, please be respectful and thoughtful in your engagement.
