He wrote “Deadline for removing old blue checks is 4/20”.
The blue check mark that identified a verified user account was free within Twitter until Musk took over in October 2022.
Musk decided to charge for it by integrating Blue Badge into Twitter Blue, the platform’s subscription service, which he had reworked in an effort to increase revenue.

When he decided to charge for the checkmark, Musk said he would give users with old blue badges a grace period.
“On April 1st, we will begin winding down our legacy verified software and removing legacy verified checkmarks,” Twitter said on March 23rd.
Musk also said previously that accounts must be verified to appear in the “For You” section of the microblogging site, which is a collection of tweets that a user can see when they log in.
“Starting April 15th, only verified accounts will be eligible to be in Recommendations For You,” Musk wrote. “This is the only realistic way to deal with the control of advancing swarms of bots. It’s a hopeless losing battle otherwise. Voting in polls will require verification for the same reason.”
But after a number of complaints, Musk changed that policy on March 28.
“Forgot to mention that accounts you directly follow will also be on For You, since you explicitly requested it,” he tweeted.
The For You section shows users’ posts that Twitter calculates will be of interest, based on their user behavior.
