Elon Musk is on pace to be world’s first trillionaire

The company estimates that Elon Musk’s net worth will exceed $1 trillion in 2027, assuming his wealth continues to grow at its current rate of 110% per year.

Not only is this a level of wealth that most people can’t fully comprehend, it’s a level that only eight companies have managed to reach so far.

While Musk, whose current net worth is $237 billion on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, may be on his way to becoming the first trillionaire, Informa Connect says he won’t be the only one for long.

The group expects Adani Group founder Gautam Adani to reach the milestone in 2028 if current growth rates remain unchanged, as will Pareto Pacific founder Prajogo Pangestu. Jensen Hwang is also expected to reach the milestone by 2028, though the calculations were made before Nvidia’s market cap plunged in the past few weeks. (Hwang’s net worth dropped by $10 billion in a single day last week after the company’s stock suffered a particularly bad day.)

By 2030, the group expects Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg, LVMH founder Bernard Arnault (and his family), and Nike founder Phil Knight (and his family) to join the trillion-dollar club.

Informa predicts that the number of trillionaires will reach 10 trillion dollars by 2034.

Of course, there’s an asterisk in all of these predictions. Stock volatility and market conditions are a crucial factor — and Huang isn’t the only person on the list who’s had some tough times recently. Musk, for example, is worth significantly less today than he was in 2021, when his fortune was estimated at $340 billion. That’s due to the volatility in Tesla stock (down 20% in the past year) and the struggles at Twitter/X, which is said to be worth 71% less than it was when he bought it in 2022.
