Elon Musk launches new long-form Twitter platform allowing 10,000 characters

Twitter has launched a new platform to support writers’ transition from micro-blogging to longer-format articles, with 10,000-character posting allowed.

The Elon Musk-owned social media giant announced the launch of Twitter Write on FridayProvides “improvements to the writing and reading experience” for users.

Starting today, Twitter now supports tweets of up to 10,000 characters in length, with wide And Diagonal Text Format”, the new Twitter Write account posted.

However, users will have to pay for the privilege of writing longer messages on the site. They’ll need to “subscribe to Twitter Blue to access these new features, and apply to enable subscriptions in your account to earn income directly on Twitter.”

It comes after Twitter was bought by Tesla owner and former richest man in the world, Elon Musk.

Musk bought the site last year for around £35 billion, and its value has halved since then as many advertisers fled the site amid wholesale changes.

Musk has reduced his staff count from more than 8,000 to just over 1,200, while promising to remove so-called “old” blue ticks from any accounts that refuse to pay for the new “Twitter Blue” option.

This week, Elon Musk gave an interview to the BBC’s San Francisco headquarters on Twitter, after the broadcaster was designated a “state-funded” organization. Musk backtracked, saying it would be changed to “publicly funded.”
