Evri, the prominent parcel delivery company, is set to significantly boost its sustainability initiatives by embracing “pedal power.”
Over the next year, Every plans to expand its fleet from 33 to 99 e-cargo bikes and from 168 to 270 electric cars, as part of a £19 million investment in green delivery methods.
The company’s ambitious target is to operate 3,000 electric cargo bikes over the next decade, a key element of its strategy to reduce carbon emissions and achieve net-zero status by 2035. This initiative aligns with Every’s broader commitment to environmental sustainability across its delivery network. .
CEO Martijn de Lange said: “Pedal Power will advance our efforts to reimagine parcel deliveries in the UK as we aim to become the largest e-cargo bike operator in the sector. We have achieved a nine per cent reduction in carbon emissions since last year. The £19 million investment announced today will lay the foundation for Evri to connect with its ambition to become the UK’s most sustainable parcel carrier.
Currently, Every delivers 1.5 million parcels a year via electric vehicles or e-cargo bikes in cities including London, Bristol, Oxford and Cambridge. The company aims to triple this volume to about four million packages over the next year. Each e-cargo bike, with a capacity of approximately 2,000 litres, is used for the “last mile” of urban deliveries, potentially saving emissions equivalent to driving more than 400,000 miles as the fleet grows.
Pauline Potter, Evry’s Procurement and Sustainability Director, emphasized the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship, saying: “Evry is committed to making a positive impact on the environment and achieving a sustainable future. Our multi-year environmental, social and governance (ESG) plans represent a major leap forward, and we are confident These initiatives will move us towards our goal of net zero emissions. We are not only investing in technology, we are also investing in our people, empowering them to be part of the solution. Together, we can build a more sustainable future for the parcel delivery sector, as well as for the communities we serve.
The push for sustainability comes amid speculation that Evri’s private equity owners, Advent International, are preparing for a major £2bn sale of the company. Advent International is reportedly teaming up with advisors from Rothschild to explore strategic options, which could lead to a major deal for the parcel delivery giant.
