FBI seizes Republican Representative Ogles’ cell phone in funding probe By Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Republican U.S. Representative Andy Ogles said on Tuesday that FBI agents seized his cellphone as part of an investigation into problems surrounding his disclosure of campaign funds.

“Last Friday, the FBI seized my cell phone,” Ogles said in a statement posted to X, formerly known as Twitter.

“It has been widely reported for months that my campaign made errors in our initial financial filings,” he said.

Ogles, who represents a district neighboring Nashville, Tennessee, said he would cooperate with law enforcement and the Federal Election Commission. He did not provide further details about the investigation.

Ogles won his first term in the House in the November 2022 election with a comfortable 55.8% to 42.3% for his Democratic challenger.

Former President Donald Trump endorsed Ogles, a member of the far-right House Freedom Caucus. Last month, he introduced a bill calling for the impeachment of Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, accusing her of “gross incompetence” in handling migrants arriving across the southern U.S. border with Mexico.

Harris was not in charge of border control. President Joe Biden tasked her with working with the “Northern Triangle” countries of El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua on the root causes of migration in their countries.
