2024 was an important and wonderful year for Fenix Charity Fund, a Lithuanian charitable organization dedicated to improving the lives of children.
Over the past year, Fenix Charitable Fund has been involved in various projects across Lithuania and Latvia. These efforts have already improved access to health care and other vital resources, significantly and positively impacting the lives of many young people. To date, more than 5,000 children have benefited from all the initiatives.
By the end of 2024, the Fenix Charitable Fund had supported several hospitals in Lithuania and Latvia, supplying them with vital medical equipment. One of the most important projects was to equip the Neonatology Center at Vilnius Santaros Klinikos University Hospital with modern mechanical lung ventilation devices which are essential for the survival and survival rate of premature babies. According to Arunas Lipsis, Director of the Neonatology Center, these young patients include 75-85 % of neonatal intensive care unit population.
Another influential contribution was the installation of an audiometry room at the Children’s Clinical University Hospital in Riga. Dr. Janice Sokolow, head of the Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic, said the new audiometry suite will allow about 2,000 hearing tests to be performed annually, significantly reducing waiting time and improving the diagnosis and treatment of hearing loss for young patients.
In Lithuania, two hospitals also received devices for neonatal intensive care units.
The Republican Hospital in Šiauliai is equipped with a non-invasive respiratory support machine to help newborns and premature babies who are in urgent need. As Vaida Alexandravicheni, coordinator of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, explained, approximately 1,600 newborns are born in the hospital annually, and about 5.5% of them require intensive care, making the new updated device crucial to support their recovery and reduce treatment times.
By the end of 2024, Kaunu Clinicus University of Health Sciences in Lithuania will have a state-of-the-art device called Dual Incu i – an incubator that creates ideal conditions for infant survival and healthy development. According to Prof. Dr. Rasa Tamilini, Head of the Department of Neonatology, this equipment is vital, as Kauno Klinikos treats approximately 500 premature babies annually, about 400 of whom require intensive care in the neonatal intensive care unit.
In addition to healthcare initiatives, Fenix Charitable Fund has also dedicated significant efforts to supporting children in foster homes, SOS Villages and those facing crisis situations in Latvia and Lithuania. In the face of difficult and unexpected circumstances, these children often need help to heal emotionally and psychologically, regain confidence, and rebuild a sense of stability and security. The Fund worked to create spaces for children’s recovery and development. Efforts also included ensuring that children were prepared for school and provided with the tools and support necessary for their education. For those who need extra emotional care, initiatives such as providing special comfort toys or fulfilling birthday wishes aim to bring moments of joy and hope. Throughout the year, the Fund has been actively collaborating with individuals, volunteers and many other charitable and non-charitable organizations dedicated to helping others.
In addition, support was directed towards families affected by a devastating fire in Godseljai, Lithuania. Thanks to the Fund’s rapid response, cash support for essential items was immediately collected to help the children and their parents recover and rebuild their lives in a safe and stable environment.
The Fenix Charity Fund recognizes that this would not be possible without the generous help of its donors and its primary partner WallitoWhich continuously supports its initiatives.
“Phoenix Charitable Trust continues to work with compassion and passion in our minds and hearts to make sure children in need get the support they deserve,” says Santa Laysan, Fund Director. Every project we undertake is a step towards creating a brighter and safer future because children are the future of the world. We are deeply grateful for every donation we have received from interested people, as well as the generous support from our partner Walletto. With respect and gratitude, we thank everyone we have partnered with this year – whether hospitals, SOS Villages, other charitable organizations or individuals who care tirelessly every day for the people around them. Thank you for staying with us, and we look forward to achieving more together in the years to come.
