Imperial College London launches new lab, backed by £1 million from the IOTA Foundation

The facility is developing bias-free, circular AI algorithms for industrial robotics and electric vehicles, battery product passports, predictive analytics tools to detect pollution from offshoring, and more.

IOTA Foundation just launched Advertise Opening of a new research facility, the Imperial IOTA Infrastructure Lab (I3-Lab), at Imperial College London.

The lab is well positioned to lead research thanks to a generous £1 million gift from the IOTA Foundation and additional funding from Imperial College London.

The facility aims to develop bias-free, circular AI algorithms in industrial robotics and electric vehicles, battery product passports, and predictive analytics for outdoor pollution detection.

Their approach will accelerate the application of scientific discoveries into practical solutions, with a particular focus on the development of distributed ledger technology (DLT) within Web3 applications and digital economies.

As part of its core mission, I3-Lab will integrate distributed ledger technology into the circular economy framework, hosting an incubator for sustainable business models and service-based digital tools. These initiatives aim to foster resource-efficient economic growth and promote shared access to goods and services.

Laboratory purpose

The lab is led by Dr. William Sanders and has a team of 25 people, including PhD students and senior researchers, who work closely with IOTA’s applied research team.

The lab aims to address global issues such as climate change by developing advanced technological solutions. It also establishes a model for collaborative research where academia and industry intersect.

The lab has received grants for pioneering projects such as Autofair and iCircular3, which target bias-free AI algorithms and promote circularity in industrial sectors, respectively.
