Is the Blue Martini the next great after the K1 Club?

Ojijo Road in Nairobi’s Westlands seems poised to produce another great pub after the K1 Clubhouse. (What happened to them?)

It’s high up in a new building I’m forgetting, almost directly opposite the Parklands Club. There is a private elevator operated by a bored employee that takes you to the rooftop. (Can’t blame the attendant, it’s not a very inspiring job to hit the same button your whole shift).

An elevator brings you to a stunning interior. It is a long wide strip surrounded by pink and the huge looming pink arch supported by white pillars leads you to a different section of the strip.

A wooden staircase takes you upstairs to a fine dining area which was empty when I visited.

The entire lounge area has nearly 360 degrees of the stunning city skyline, which shimmers at night like ill intentions.

All heated seats against the glass wall because Nairobi at night is deceptively cool. Most things at night are deceptively fantastic, it’s daylight that intrudes with its stark realities.

What was remarkable to me was the fact that the place was 70 percent female, all fabulously dressed, all sipping cocktails through their red lips. (They have a happy hour).

“Why don’t men come to places like this?” madam asked me. I ignored her because I was distracted and overwhelmed by the huge pink corridor.

I called the manager, a nice fellow, and asked what the place was all about. He said things that meant he didn’t know.

However, the place is great. Surprisingly the reasonably priced whiskey list has all the bells and whistles out there.

The burger patty was chewy but then I gave the wonderful young chef the comments which he, thankfully, took on the chin. Most chefs smile. Such sensitive souls, just like writers.

The music was very old school, Ralph T was singing but miraculously it didn’t resonate in the spacious, high-ceilinged venue. If my friend Anthony from Bar Next Door is reading this, please check out the magic they did to borrow a paper.

If you’re tired of thinking about where to go for date nights, try Blue Martini Lounge. its a kick.
