The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed responsibility for the attack on Beirut on Saturday evening in response to the killing of 12 Druze children in the Golan Heights by Hezbollah on Saturday. The IDF said the target of the attack was Fouad Shukr, Hezbollah’s number two and a senior adviser to its leader Hassan Nasrallah. It remains unclear whether Shukr is still alive.
“The IDF carried out a targeted attack in Beirut on the commander responsible for the killing of children in Majdal Shams,” an IDF spokesman said. “At this stage there are no changes in the instructions given to Israeli civilians from the IDF’s internal command.”
Meanwhile, the shekel continues to weaken, rising 0.60% against the dollar at NIS 3.755/USD, and 0.44% against the euro at NIS 4.06/EUR.
Earlier today, a 30-year-old Israeli civilian was killed by shrapnel in Kibbutz Hagoshrim in the Upper Galilee, as a result of a Hezbollah rocket fired at Israel.
