Israeli universities retain top 100 status in Shanghai Ranking

The Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot has become Israel’s highest-ranked university, overtaking the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Despite calls to boycott Israeli universities, Israeli universities maintained their high positions in the Shanghai Ranking of the World’s Best Universities, with three universities among the top 100.

The Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot has become Israel’s highest-ranked university, overtaking the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The Weizmann Institute rose 14 places from 83rd to 69th, while the Hebrew University fell from 77th to 81st. The Technion Institute of Technology in Haifa fell slightly to 85th from 83rd last year.

Outside the top 100, Tel Aviv University is ranked 201-300, Bar-Ilan University is ranked 301-400, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev is ranked 401-500, and the University of Haifa is ranked 501-600. The Shanghai Ranking includes what it calls the world’s top 2,500 universities.

All of the top ten universities are in the US or UK, and the top five are ranked in the same order as last year: Harvard, Stanford, MIT, Cambridge, and UCLA.
