Leumi and EIB sign strategic agreement on climate action

Bank Leumi and the European Investment Bank will promote climate action and sustainable development cooperation.


The European Investment Bank, the world’s largest international public bank, and Bank Leumi (level:roomYesterday I signed a strategic agreement in Tel Aviv that will increase support for climate change mitigation and adaptation, environmental sustainability, and blue economy investment in Israel.

The agreement will allow for closer collaboration between climate finance experts from the two institutions to share best practices and expertise in climate finance that have enhanced the impact of climate finance and climate innovation, building on the EIB’s pioneering leadership in green bonds.

Earlier this year, the European Investment Bank provided €500m in support of targeted climate business financing by Bank Leumi in Israel. The new agreement will enable Bank Leumi to develop its sustainable financial participation in the region, contribute to the growth of green initiatives and promote sustainable economic development.

The agreement was signed at Bank Leumi’s headquarters by CEO Hanan Friedman and Vice President Gelsomina Vigliotti of the European Investment Bank. The ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bank Leumi, Samer Haj Yahya, and a number of members of the bank’s senior management.
