Major US indices are higher in early trading

The S&P 500 closed at a new record high for three straight days. The Nasdaq closed at a record high for four straight days. Both indices are trading higher in early U.S. trading to start the new trading week. Despite its rise, the Dow Jones Industrial Average leads the three major indexes.

  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose +221.07 points, or 0.56%, to 39,596.95.
  • The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index rose 11.32 points, or 0.20%, to 5,578.52.
  • The Nasdaq Composite rose 20.92 points, or 0.11%, to 18,373.68.

The Russell 2000 index of small-cap stocks also rose 15.87 points, or 0.78%, to 2,042.60.

Looking at US yields, they are trading higher ahead of 3, 10 and 30 year coupon options this week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) and Fed Chairman Powell’s testimony on Capitol Hill on Tuesday and Wednesday:

  • 2-year yield 4.64%, +2.5bps
  • 5-year yield 4.242%, +2.5bps
  • 10-year yield 4.294%, +2.1bps
  • 30-year bond yield 4.487%, +1.9bps

In other markets:

  • Crude oil is trading down $0.91 or -1.07% at $82.27
  • Gold is trading down $20.13 or -0.83% at $2,371.30.
  • Bitcoin is trading higher at $56,844
