While flying out of Denver International Airport, the comedian and celeb, who was recently on “Air” and is also known for the “Scary Movie,” “Requiem for a Dream” and “In Living Color” franchises, claims he was treated unfairly last Friday. Wayans said he tried to “combine” the two bags into one, but was then told “Now you have to check that bag.”
Authorities confirmed that Wayans later issued tickets from the Denver Police Department for disturbing the peace. He was released, but ended up missing a concert in Kansas City, Mo.
He confirmed the quote in an Instagram post, saying that the gate agent “tried to lie and said I used to him,” and “the video clearly shows I never touched him.”
He added, “I’ve traveled over 15,000,000 miles in my life and seldom had problems. Anyone who knows me knows I’m a gentleman. Obviously this agent has been bothering me.”
Wayans claims he has faced “harassment” from the airline and plans to “make enough noise” to draw attention to the unfair treatment. “Black people (experience) all kinds of racism and classism,” he said. He added, “I will not allow this. Over a briefcase? You owe me money for my programs that I missed, and you owe me for my troubles, you owe my fans an apology.” “This was the highest level of disrespect.”
A United spokesperson saidStatement to Entertainment Weekly: “A customer who was told he would have to check his bag, instead pushed a defiant employee at the plane bridge and attempted to board the plane.”
