Yaccarino has, over recent months, helped Twitter re-establish its repertoire with advertising agencies.
According to the Wall Street Journal a reportNBCU’s Chief Advertising Officer, Linda Iaccarino, is all set to become the next CEO of Twitter. This news comes hours after Elon Musk announced via Twitter that he has appointed a new CEO.
Yaccarino, who devoted much of her life and career to WarnerMedia’s television operations before joining NBCUniversal a decade ago, oversees the Comcast-owned company’s ad sales operations around the world.
In an article I wrote on Yaccarino ten years ago, she was phrased as the woman who wouldn’t do “baby steps.” Known for her strong negotiating skills, Liz Gunman, then Executive Vice President of Advertising Sales at Cabler Ovation, described her as incredibly aggressive.
Yaccarino has recently led projects to generate new cash flows through e-commerce and has worked to revamp the way the TV industry values its audience for advertisers looking to offer more credibility. A spokesperson for NBCUniversal’s advertising sales firm claimed that he was unaware of any information about Yaccarino’s change of status with the company.
However, an individual with knowledge of the recent proceedings suggested that NBCU may have to rework the pitch due to Yaccarino’s possible firing. A Madison Avenue expert is just what Twitter needs today. Since the $44 billion handover of power to Elon Musk in October, the social media platform has lost advertisers because the CEO can’t stop experimenting with its new features in real time.
Musk has pulled the blue tick feature that confirms identities, making it only available if customers pay extra for it. It also offered new access to accounts that were initially banned for writing false or offensive material.
However, there has been speculation about other senior executives who could be suitable for the position. For example, Nada Sterat, a veteran digital advertising executive who resigned from Facebook and previously also worked with Viacom as well as News Corp and was the CEO of Verve Mobile, is also considered one of the leading names in the field.
Yaccarino has, over recent months, helped Twitter re-establish its repertoire with advertising agencies. In April, it interviewed Musk at an industry event in Miami Beach, and NBCUniversal shook hands with an agreement with Twitter that will create content related to the 2024 Paris Olympics available on the social site.
According to former Bank of America chief marketing officer Lou Paskalis, Yaccarino has a keen interest in Twitter and sees an opportunity there.
Her departure will open discussion about a new Head of Advertising Sales Operations. A possible successor was Laura Mullen, who left the company last year. Rumors are swirling that Mark Lazarus, the NBCCU executive who oversees the company’s broadcast and television businesses, will likely be out on the ad sales portion.
