Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fired Defense Minister Yoav Galant. Netanyahu said: “In the midst of war, more than ever, complete trust is needed between the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense. Unfortunately, although in the first months of the war there was such trust and there was very fruitful work, in In recent months, trust between me and the Minister of Defense has collapsed.”
He continued: “Major differences arose between me and Gallant in the management of the war, and these differences were accompanied by statements and actions that contradicted the decisions of the government and the decisions of the Council of Ministers. I made many attempts to bridge these gaps.” But it continued to expand, and it attracted the attention of the public in an unacceptable way, and worse, it attracted the attention of the enemy – and our enemies enjoyed this and profited greatly from it.
“Different opinions in open discussions, everyone knows, those who know me – this is my way of conducting discussions, assessments and decisions. Everyone knows that. But the crisis of trust that has gradually opened between me and the Minister of Defense has worsened.” It has entered the public domain, and this crisis does not allow for the proper continuation of the conduct of the war. I am not the only one who says this. Most members of the government and most members of the Council of Ministers share this with me. I feel that it is impossible to continue like this.”
Netanyahu replaced Galant with Israel Katz, who currently holds the position of Foreign Minister, and will be replaced by Gideon Saar.
National Unity Party leader, MK Benny Gantz, said in response: “This is a policy at the expense of national security.”
