TORONTO, Oct. 21, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — As the Ontario Legislature resumes after a 19-week summer recess, the Ontario Federation of Labor (OFL) is ready to remind the Ford government that what Ontarians really want is affordability and decent work. , and good public services — not the culture wars over bike lanes, Ontario Place’s adorable agreement with Therm, or the $200 check gimmick that distracts from the real issues.
“While the Ford government has filibustered the legislature for 5 months, we have brought workers together to discuss the issues that matter most to them,” said Laura Walton, president of the Ontario Federation of Labor. “What we’ve heard is that people are struggling. They’re struggling to get health care when they need it, they’re still suffering from the effects of the cost of living crisis, and housing is still unaffordable.

The Ontario Federation of Labor just concluded an 11-city tour — which included a province-wide virtual town hall — on building “The Ontario We Need.” The tour traveled across the county to hear directly from community members about the issues they face and how to solve them.
“People are struggling, but more importantly, they understand the power of many. They realize that when we come together, we have what it takes to make things better,” Walton said.
As part of the tour, OFL was launched The power of many campaign. The campaign has three demands:
- Affordability: Addressing the cost of living crisis
- Decent work: Ensuring that working for a living means earning a living
- Public services: for the public by the public
“Right now, the Ford conservatives are making life more difficult for everyone,” Walton added. “We are ready to use our power, and the power of many, to hold this government to account.”
