Over 130,000 GM heavy-duty pickups have just been recalled after major safety issue

GM adds More than 132,000 heavy-duty pickup trucks In the United States, there was a previous recall of tailgate release switches that can short-circuit and open the gates while trucks are parked.

The recall adds some 2024 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 trucks to… 323,000 heavy-duty pickup trucks recalled in February. Only trucks equipped with a manual gate and electric lock and release are affected.

The company says in documents published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Tuesday that water can get into the electronic gate release switches, causing the gates to open. If this happens, the goods may fall in the way and pose a hazard.

The trucks were added to the new recall after the company found 237 field reports of the rear doors opening unexpectedly. Until repairs are made, GM says owners should check to make sure the gate is closed before driving.

Dealers will replace the external touchpad key assemblies with new, more water-resistant ones.

Owners will be notified by letter beginning January 13th.
