PSC picks insider for CEO as Simon Rotich’s term ends

The Public Service Commission (PSC) has appointed Paul Vampa as its new Chief Executive, doubling up as Commission Secretary, following the expected expiration of Dr Simon Rotich's five-year term which began on 1 August 2019.

In a notice on Wednesday signed by Planetarium Commission Chairman Anthony Mochere, the commission said the new appointee's term would last for five years starting August 1.

“The Public Service Commission has appointed Mr. Paul Vamba as Secretary/CEO of the Public Service Commission for a period of five years with effect from 1 August 2024,” the PSC said.

“The new CEO brings to the committee a wealth of experience as a functional officer, having held senior positions in government.”

Until his new appointment, Mr. Vamba served as Secretary for Administration in the Ministry of the Interior. Other positions he has previously held include Assistant County Commissioner, Protocol Officer, Deputy County Commissioner, as well as Director of Administration.

He holds a Master of Arts in Peace and Conflict Management from Kenyatta University and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Nairobi.

Mr Vamba was among 11 candidates shortlisted after the PSC opened its search for the position in April. The interviews were conducted from May 22 to 23.

According to the guidelines, he will be eligible for reappointment only once after the end of his five-year term in July 2029.
