Russia launches third ballistic missile attack on Kyiv this month, Ukraine says By Reuters

KIEV (Reuters) – Russia fired a third ballistic missile at Kiev in August on Sunday and initial data showed all the air weapons were destroyed as they approached the city, the Ukrainian capital’s military administration said.

“This is the third ballistic strike on the capital in August, with an exact interval of six days between each attack,” Serhiy Popko, head of the military administration in Kyiv, said via the Telegram messaging app.

“According to preliminary information, the Russians again used, most likely for the third time in a row, North Korean ballistic missiles.”

Popko added that Ukrainian air defense units also destroyed a number of drones launched by Russia.

The scope of the attack was not immediately clear. Popko said there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

Reuters could not independently verify the type of missiles fired. A Reuters witness heard explosions that appeared to be from air defense systems early on Sunday morning.

About two hours after the initial attack, Kyiv, the surrounding area and most of central and northeastern Ukraine were put on fresh alert for air strikes, amid threats of more missiles being fired at the city, the Ukrainian air force said.
