(Reuters) – An ammunition depot was hit during a Ukrainian drone attack on Djanko in Crimea early Monday, a Russian official said, as Russian air defense forces intercepted or suppressed 11 drones over the area.

Sergei Aksionov, the Russian governor of Crimea that Moscow annexed from Ukraine in 2014, also said that an apartment building was damaged in the area.

It was not immediately clear whether the ammunition depot was hit directly by a drone or damaged by falling drone debris.

Russia has a military air base near Djankoy. Ukrainian officials have long said that the city and its surrounding areas have been turned into Moscow’s largest military base in Crimea.

Aksionov also said on messaging app Telegram that for “safety reasons” rail and road traffic in the region has been suspended.

Reuters could not independently verify reports of the attacks. There was no immediate comment from Ukraine on the alleged attack.

Ukraine has never claimed responsibility for attacks inside Russia or on Russian-controlled territory in Ukraine, but has been saying in recent months that destroying Russian military infrastructure helps Kiev’s counteroffensive.
