Secret Service Director Kimberly Shettle has resigned, according to sources.
The move comes after intense questioning by members of the House Oversight Committee yesterday, who sharply criticized the director over the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
During her testimony yesterday, she acknowledged that there were serious and significant security failures at the rally. One rally participant was killed in a shooting, and others were injured. Although the former president avoided an assassination attempt, the number of errors was inexcusable. The moderator avoided questions throughout her appearance, much to the frustration of committee members.
The chorus of support for her resignation was bipartisan, and Republican lawmakers have pushed for impeachment proceedings. Instead, the focus will be on rebuilding the agency.
Chettle was appointed director by President Biden in 2022.
