U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) announced in a press release to Bitcoin Magazine that her re-election campaign now accepts cryptocurrencies. DonationsThe move comes as Blackburn’s campaign recently launched a dedicated Bitcoin page. Donations.
“Our campaign is committed to meeting supporters where they are,” said Senator Blackburn. “As more Americans use digital currencies for everyday transactions, we are excited to take this next step and stay on top of the digital world in the 21st century.”
The announcement comes on the heels of a recent push to embrace Bitcoin among American politicians. Just yesterday, Blackburn chaired the Republican Party Platform Committee, which passed its 2024 platform draft, pledging to defend the right to mine and self-custodial Bitcoin. Representative Matt Gaetz recently introduced a bill that would allow federal income taxes to be paid in Bitcoin. Additionally, former President Donald Trump has also begun accepting Bitcoin Lightning payments for campaign donations.
Earlier this year, Senator Blackburn told Bitcoin Magazine that the freedom and privacy aspects of Bitcoin are “a very good thing,” while he has strongly advocated against central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), saying they are spying tools used by governments against their citizens.

Senator Blackburn is also scheduled to speak at the Bitcoin Conference 2024 In Nashville at the end of the month, indicating its support for Bitcoin.
