OpenAI explains that it began researching the ChatGPT bounty because it considers “transparency and collaboration” to be vital in dealing with the “weaknesses and flaws” that inevitably arise with any complex technology.
OpenAI, based in San Francisco, said in a blog post Tuesday that it will pay up to $6,500 for each flaw discovered through a bug bounty program, which it is launching with Bugcrowd Inc.

For “extraordinary finds,” OpenAI says it will pay $20,000, while “low-risk hits” will earn $200.

OpenAI’s Bugcrowd page claims that new requests are either rejected or approved within two hours.
A list of prohibited issues, such as “getting the model to tell you bad things” or “getting the model to write malicious code for you”, are provided on the Bugcrowd page.
OpenAI states in a blog post that while precautions are taken, it is impossible for the company’s software engineers to anticipate every possible scenario in which a chatbot could be used inappropriately in the “real world”.
As of this writing, 11 bugs have been caught and awarded with the OpenAI Bug Bounty Program. In addition, his payments over the past three months averaged $1,860.
