The ChatGPT AI chatbot, created by OpenAI and released in November 2022, is taking the world by storm due to its amazing versatility of generating text at the touch of a button.

OpenAI, the famous company responsible for the groundbreaking language model, is aware of the limitations inherent in its creation. In order to foster a culture of collaboration and encourage users to identify any potential bugs or vulnerabilities, they have created ChatGPT Bug Bounty Program.

Open AI He said, in quotes from The Independent:

“We invite the global community of security researchers, ethical hackers, and technology enthusiasts to help us identify and address vulnerabilities in our systems.”

OpenAI explains that it began researching the ChatGPT bounty because it considers “transparency and collaboration” to be vital in dealing with the “weaknesses and flaws” that inevitably arise with any complex technology.

OpenAI, based in San Francisco, said in a blog post Tuesday that it will pay up to $6,500 for each flaw discovered through a bug bounty program, which it is launching with Bugcrowd Inc.

For “extraordinary finds,” OpenAI says it will pay $20,000, while “low-risk hits” will earn $200.

“We invite you to report vulnerabilities, bugs, or security flaws that you discover in our systems. By sharing your findings, you will play a critical role in making our technology safer for everyone.”

OpenAI’s Bugcrowd page claims that new requests are either rejected or approved within two hours.

A list of prohibited issues, such as “getting the model to tell you bad things” or “getting the model to write malicious code for you”, are provided on the Bugcrowd page.

OpenAI states in a blog post that while precautions are taken, it is impossible for the company’s software engineers to anticipate every possible scenario in which a chatbot could be used inappropriately in the “real world”.

As of this writing, 11 bugs have been caught and awarded with the OpenAI Bug Bounty Program. In addition, his payments over the past three months averaged $1,860.

Users who do not knowr vulnerabilities OpenAI urged that it be disclosed “urgently” and without conditions. OpenAI prohibits all forms of “coercive retaliation”, including blackmail and threats, in its standards of conduct.

Concerns surrounding GPT chat

Experts have expressed concern that artificial intelligence may one day replace human workers and help students cheat on tests, as well as make individuals more likely to fall for fake news.

Elon Musk, CEO of Twitter, and Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, are just two of the tech industry leaders who have spoken out against the spread of AI and urged developers to halt their efforts until the risks involved can be fully assessed.
