Stellantis-owned Chrysler is recalling about 1.2 million vehicles in the United States because of a software defect in the anti-lock braking system that could increase the risk of a crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Saturday.
The regulator said the 1,227,808 vehicles being recalled by Stellantis Inc. (NYSE:STELLANTIS) include some 2019 and 2021-2024 Ram 1500 vehicles.
“Due to a software defect, the anti-lock braking system (ABS) control module may disable the electronic stability control system,” the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a statement.
Dealers will update the anti-lock braking system control unit software as a remedy, she said.
In a separate statement, the auto regulator said Stellantis is also recalling 32,863 Jeep Gladiator vehicles manufactured between 2020 and 2024, and Jeep Wrangler vehicles manufactured between 2018 and 2024, as the vehicles’ instrument cluster may experience an internal electrical short.
