Tel Aviv – London fares to fall as British Airways resumes flights

British Airways in the United Kingdom resumed Tel Aviv – London Heathrow flights yesterday after suspending the road services for a period of six months due to regional geopolitical instability. The airline will operate seven weekly flights on the road, which doubles the frequency to 14 weekly flights from April 20.

This is welcome to travelers after 18 months, as there were a limited number of tickets on flights to London, where foreign airlines stopped and Israeli transport companies struggled to meet the demand.

While El Al AL went up to the number of flights to London, ISRAIR also entered the void in the role of British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Easyjet and Wizz Air all the flights arrested to Ben Gurion Airport. Even Arkia runs trips to Manchester for three months during the winter season, but then canceled the road, it is believed that he was not worth economically.

In January, with the Tel Aviv appeal – Tel Aviv flights improved by the low -cost Hungarian Wizz Air, and the improvement of the situation on Tel Aviv Road – in June, and in June, Easyjet in the United Kingdom will return Tel Aviv – London. Thus, from June, there will be 20-32 weekly flights working on Tel Aviv – London by foreign airlines – British Airways, Wiz Air and Easyjet.

Israeli companies are the most expensive

The return of foreign airlines may have helped increase the supply, but in April, on flights at the last minute and at the end of the month, it is still easy to find a seat in the economic seasons of British Airways, old airlines that operate on the road.

“Globes” found that at the end of April, the business degree seats remain in the back and forth of $ 2000 and above on the Tel Aviv -London Road. EL Al also has many remaining economic tickets, especially in flights to Israel, which force travelers to choose a premium seat or work in one direction and may increase the price of the ticket by a percentage.

According to the data from Ophir Tours, the highest price start price in April is offered by El Al, with tickets starting from $ 702 for Tel Aviv – London Return. Next in the line is the ISRAIR, which offers tickets starting from $ 679, followed by British Airways, cheaper with a small margin at a price starting at $ 650, and finally Wizzair, which markets tickets back and forth starting from $ 288.

In June, with the expected return on Easyjet, the situation improves slightly. Here too, Israeli companies are at the most expensive end of the list. ISRAIR starts from $ 689, and EL Al begins at $ 607, BRISHISH AIRWAIS at $ 471, Easyjet at $ 385 and Wizz Air at $ 288.

The reason for the differences between Israeli airlines and the rest is the method of pricing used in the industry. When an airline returns to the market, it sells the first seats more than that, and therefore it can bear a lower price than its competitors who have been on the market for a long time. The first seats that are sold on each flight are the cheapest provision of an airline, according to Khawarizia, and the higher the number of passengers, the higher the fare accordingly.

For Israeli airlines that were working constantly and consistently throughout the war, consumer confidence is high, and therefore many passengers prefer to pay more, and secure their journey even if the security situation exacerbates.

British airline still does not resume flights

Before the war erupted, Virgin Atlantic, headed by Israeli CEO, Shay Weiss, operated the Tel Aviv Lundon Road. The airline had planned to resume operations with seven weekly flights last September, after all its flights were suspended since October 2023, but it suspended it until October 2025 at least.

The airline claims that this is due to the challenges arising from the availability of spare parts for Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines, which are adapted to the Boeing 787-9 plane used by the company. Accordingly, the company must make changes on its flight schedule for 2025.

Before the war, Virgin Atlantic has operated 14 weekly flights between Tel Aviv and London Hyithro Airport. According to industry estimates, Virgin Atlantic will announce in the coming weeks whether it will already return to Israel as planned in the winter season 2025-2026.
