The US political landscape may look very different when markets reopen on Monday.
All kinds of rumors and reports have spread following Biden’s disastrous debate performance. The main rumors are that Biden and his team plan to continue, but I don’t see any evidence of that – people always want to continue.
The question is whether there are enough senior Democratic officials and concerned donors who can convince him to withdraw.
One report that caught my attention was written by Doug Kass, a money manager, not a journalist, but there is some truth to the report.
What I hear about Joe Biden. Ron Klain and Barack Obama are sitting with the president today. Jill Biden is insisting that Joe run. Kamala is upset that she isn’t being considered an alternative (so are Whittiller and Newsom). Interestingly, my neighbor in East Hampton is hosting the Bidens tomorrow. It will be interesting to see if the fundraiser is canceled.
Ron Klain was Biden’s former chief of staff.
I think if you read between the lines on a comment like that from Nancy Pelosi, it’s certainly disturbing.
“The President of the United States was a great President. He had a bad start. I thought it came out okay.“
This is hardly a ringing endorsement.
The question is: If he drops out, what happens next? All eyes will be on Gavin Newsom and Gretchen Whitmer, but can you take down a candidate without anyone voting? That’s definitely a problem.
